Wyoming’s application periond for elk tags expires on January 31st. Non-resident fees are $591 plus your conservation license fee.. around $14. Wyoming allocates 75% of the tags in any unit to those who hold the most preference points and 25% to all applicants who chose the unit as first choice. Wyoming has great general elk areas as well as several “trophy” units which will require an accumulation of points to draw or luck in the random draw. A good strategy is to pick a “trophy” unit as first choice, and a general tag as second. Wyoming only deducts preference points when your first choice is drawn, allowing you to accumulate preference points for an eventual draw in your first choice area. Wyoming also allows you to purchase a point yearly without applying for a unit or buying a license. Serious hunters should be buying your WY points annually. The great thing about Wyoming’s system is your ability to calculate approximately how many years it will take to draw any one unit based on the number of point holders applying annually and the allocated license quota. Wyoming Fish and Game has an excellent hunt planning tool on their website.
I’m a quadriplegic and am trying to find somewhere to haunt elk in Wyoming. I will be applying for the draw by January 31 for early 2015.
Any information you can provide me would be greatly appreciated
